I love cooking!!!!!!

For those who are close to me, they would know that I love cooking. Not so passionate about baking and whats not, but I really love to cook. Sometimes when a certain recipe for something comes to my head, it will be stuck in my head and will not go away until I actually tried out the recipe.   It does help that my parents are great cooks as well. That pretty much explains my body size. LOL!   But while I am cooking I'm pretty lazy to take pics throughout the process, you know messy hands and stuff so normally I will only take a picture of the end result. I think Bi has more photos of the food that I cooked than I have coz after whipping out a delicious meal, all that I want is to sit down to enjoy it and not taking photos of it.   Just to share a few delicious pics of some of the food that I had personally prepared. Fresh red dragon fruit with lychee and strawberries generously drizzled with yoghurt Delicious fish, oyster and mussel stew. Best ...

Muesli for a healthy breakfast

Just started following a different lifestyle this Monday. (Whoa!!! Has it only been 4 days?) A low carb, low fat, high protein and high fibre diet. I cut out rice, noodles, kueh tiaw, meehoon, tang hoon, lau shu fun, bread, biscuits, keropok, chocolates and most importantly, no more sweet drinks even 100+ or even Pocari or Revive.  It's not very very very hard but I do get cravings for carbs sometimes. The trick is to keep yourself full so you wont feel hungry at any point in time. So you wont be tempted to take those simple carbs. Even fruits you have to be careful as they have high sugar content. Fruits like mangoes, bananas, apples, oranges, watermelon, durians, etc should be taken in moderation. A great idea for a healthy breakfast is muesli! I saw muesli being sold in Supasave but have never really taken a good look at it. It was Bi who told me that his colleague was eating this every morning and she lost a lot of weight that I started to take some interest in...

Home made Tiramisu

The Tiramisu turned out not too bad. Does this tickles your fancy Like I said in the previous post, the layers of cheese and whipped cream is not very even. But It was delicious!!!! The layers as you can see are not very even. LOL!!!! Minus marks for presentation. I felt very warm after eating the Tiramisu and I thought that it was due to me running 5km. Haha, actually it was the Kahlua. So you literally feel warm and fuzzy inside after eating my home made Tiramisu.  It was fairly easy to make. I like the coffee taste to be really strong so I used quite a lot of the coffee mixture and I used Abbi's really strong coffee brew. And I reduced the sugar and increased the portion of coffee and Kahlua. The mascarpone cheese was not that think. Maybe I should have used more but I had already added in more than what the recipe has asked for. Next time I'll double up on the cheese, I also added in an extra egg yolk as the recipe calls for 6 large eggs and the eggs at home are...

What for dinner?

Cooked roast pork belly with BBQ sauce last night. Mind you, the BBQ was home made by myself. Got the recipe from the internet. It was pretty easy, just pop it into the oven for 30 minutes with olive oil, pepper and cut onions. Then after 30 minutes just pour in the home made sauce and bask regularly for a further of 25 minutes and VOILA!!!!! A very delicious dinner. Hot from the oven After slicing the meat, pour the leftover sauce on top Looks delicious? Its pretty easy and fuss free. Follow the recipe from here . I googled dry cider and found that its actually alcoholic so I doubt I can find it in the Brunei supermarkets. So I just used White Chinese Rice wine and like I said it was delish!!!!! I also substituted brown sugar with normal white sugar. I also added extra heaped table spoon of tomato puree. I think this dish was quite healthy as I cut away the skin and plus the pork belly meat has only a little fats. Plus I only used olive oil to...
I literally lazed around the whole day on Sunday!!!! Lazy de me.  Had an 'AH-HA' moment when I saw that there was loads of white bread in the fridge.  The 'AH-HA' moment Stale white bread = bread pudding  I had cravings for some bread pudding for like ages! So after dinner, I had Bi driving me to Hua Ho to get the ingredients. There was some bananas lying around in the kitchen as well so I had decided to make banana bread pudding! Ingredients: Very ripe bananas around 4-5 pieces. If you love bananas, just add more.  6 eggs 4 cups half and half. (I had to google this. I had known that this will not be available in Brunei so I made some substitution. Equal parts of whole milk and whipping cream) 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (without sugar) 1/2 stick of butter unsalted 1 teaspoon nutmeg (Hua Ho dun have this spice. I got it at Le apple) 3/4 cups sugar Slice all the bananas . Melt abit of butter and add in 2 table spoon of brown sugar. Ad...

Simple yet delicious dinner

The other day I did post that I really feel like eating Japanese Curry. So I went off work promptly on time on Wednesday (no baddie coz they are having the netball tournament). Got ready all the ingredients and quickly rushed home. I have never cooked Japanese Kare before but it should be easy peasy as described online. Ingredients: Carrots Potatoes Onions Fresh Tomatoes Boneless Chicken breasts Salt Tongarashi (coz the kare is not spicy enough) Sugar Just stir fry the onions, carrots, fresh tomatoes and potatoes until fragrant and then mix in the chicken breast pieces until brown. Mix in the kare pieces. Add in hot water (or chicken stock) and cook thoroughly, which is roughly around 15 to 20 minutes, stirring from time to time. When it is about done, mix in salt and sugar according to taste. I mixed in some tongarashi coz the Japanese Kare is really not spicy at all! Here you go!!!! The end result!!!! Its pretty hassle free. So if you are in a hurry...
