Just started following a different lifestyle this Monday. (Whoa!!! Has it only been 4 days?)
A low carb, low fat, high protein and high fibre diet. I cut out rice, noodles, kueh tiaw, meehoon, tang hoon, lau shu fun, bread, biscuits, keropok, chocolates and most importantly, no more sweet drinks even 100+ or even Pocari or Revive.
It's not very very very hard but I do get cravings for carbs sometimes. The trick is to keep yourself full so you wont feel hungry at any point in time. So you wont be tempted to take those simple carbs.
Even fruits you have to be careful as they have high sugar content. Fruits like mangoes, bananas, apples, oranges, watermelon, durians, etc should be taken in moderation.
A great idea for a healthy breakfast is muesli! I saw muesli being sold in Supasave but have never really taken a good look at it. It was Bi who told me that his colleague was eating this every morning and she lost a lot of weight that I started to take some interest in it. So I consulted my good friend "Google" on this matter.
You can read what is muesli here. There are some people who prefer their muesli with milk and greek yogurt and then there are some who prefer it with fruit juice.
You can actually make your own muesli by combining the following:
Rolled oats
Toasted wheat germ
Wheat bran
Oat bran
Raisins (or whatever dried fruits)
Nuts like almonds, hazelnuts or walnuts
I actually wanted to mix my own muesli but its too costly for me. If I were to buy all the ingredients, it would have cost me about B$50.00 at least. However, if you were to make in bulk, then it should be cheaper in the long run. Being the cheapskate, I just got the premade muesli. This is the first time in my life that I stand in front of the whole shelf of muesli and check the nutritional values. Most important to me was the sugar content. So I got the brand called 'Jordan' with hazelnuts and apricots.
I made my first batch of muesli on Tuesday night. Well......it was just ok. I just couldn't really see what the big deal about how delicious muesli is. The first batch, I put in bananas and green apples.
Last night, I made my second batch and I tweak my recipe. I added in more milk (I use skim milk) and less greek yogurt and added in dried cranberries and more walnuts. Then this morning I added in the oranges and dragon fruit (the white ones) which I had peeled and cut into small pieces last night. The results? Its absolutely DELISH!!!!!!!
Now I get what those people are raving about. Just give it a try. Its packed full of fibre and goodness.
P.S I did not add any sugar in mind as I find that its full of taste with all the fruits that I added in but feel free to tweak it according to your taste.
