Recently some of my relatives came back from Australia. She told me that she observed that the people in Brunei drives in a crazy manner. I have to agree with her. Not only is their driving skills very dubious, the drivers also tend to become another person when they are be hind the wheels. Here are some personal experience that I have.
Drivers who just can't let it go
I have come across some people who just can't let it go that you overtook them. They will try by all means to overtake you again, just to show me who is boss. (Plz don't forget that I am driving Nissan Silvia, with 250hp, that can do 100km in about 7.7s) These drivers are sufferring from kiasuness.
If they know who you are, then its even worst. They will come to you and say the most ridiculous things. Like you are too close behind me. (Well, excuse me.......the distance between ur car and mine can fit in 2 Kancils, ok la....maybe 1 kancils.....but I'm not that keen on kissing ur butt either) So, people, if you think I'm too close behind ur butt, then kindly move to the left lane la......if your car cannot go beyond 120km/h, then PLZ, PLZ, switch on ur indicator and move swiftly to the left lane, instead of stubbornly remaining on right lane (right lane is only for fast cars, OK?) You think you are fast driving at 120???? Ha? Ha? With my Silvia, you are like a tortoise to me ok......so don't come up to me and say "Jennifer, you are driving too close behind me. Next time don't drive so close" (No offense to anyone)
Another person is even worst.......came to me and told me that I was driving too fast and that I overtook him. (Ok, I have to admit that I was driving a bit too fast at that time) But the thing that I am angry at is not the fact that he scolded me for driving fast or anything. But he actually said that if it was a M***Y, they would have slapped me already (he is a Chinese, very racist right?) I was angry over that. Slap me? Just go ahead and try.....(not jeering you but imagine someone said that they wanna slap you coz you overtook them) Anyway, this happened quite some time ago.....so I'll just let it go.
Drivers who are clearly in the wrong but still wants to scream at the other party
This type of drivers will scream at you when they are the ones who knock your car, irrelevant of the fact that THEY are the ones who are at fault. Like that time when Bi was driving me home to Seria. We were behind this Avanza at a junction. (it was a little slope) He nearly reversed into Bi's Vios so Bi got down to check whether there are any damages to his car. The stupid old man just got off his car and shouted at Bi. Shouting that there is no need to look at his car since he did not hit us. He even wanted to call the police. I guess that the main reason why he dared to shout at us becoz Bi's Vios is M'sian car plate, which leads me to the 3rd point.
Drivers who bully foreign registered cars
I have experienced this first hand as Bi is driving a M'sian registered car. They will not let you pass. (Ok, so they argued that when Brunei cars go to M'sian counter parts, they are bullying us too.) They will take every possible chance not to give way to foreign registered cars.
Drivers who think that their vehicles have no indicator
These type of drivers are the most common. They will turn left or right without any indicators, hence resulting in me concluding that these drivers think that other drivers on the roads are mind-readers.
Drivers who don't give a shit about other people on the roads
These drivers are potentially a hazard. They don't care to check whether the road is clear before they change lanes, come out of a junction, overtake, etc. They think that the roads belongs to them. That they are the only ones on the road. They don't care about the precious life of others, they only remember the worthlessness of their own.
I may drive fast. But I will still take the time to see whether there are any other cars in my way. Whether I have enough time to overtake safely. I will also use indicators at all times as I do not want any other cars to bang into me. I may love the thrill of speed but I do not relish in scaring the shit out of the other drivers while I weave in and out of traffic. I value other people's lives on the road and more importantly I value my own life and do not want to cut it short in any way.
