So the big day is finally here. The day that I have started running for.
The Standard Chartered Charity Run 2012!!!!!!!
The night before I was pretty nervous. I could not really sleep. There were so many things to prepare for the run. I got my clothes ready. I had to transfer my running songs to Bi's nano coz no way am I gonna carry kick ass huge Samsung Note while running and no way am I gonna just hold the phone in my hand. So I had to transfer the songs from my Samsung Note (which I normally use while running on the treadmill) Then getting all the things ready such as my clothes, the bib, the tag, the extra clothes, sunblock, etc.
I went to bed at around 12:30am and I toss and turned, toss and turned! Even when Bi came to bed around 2:30am, I was kinda semi-awake. I had set the alarm at 4:45am. So the next thing I heard was the alarm ringing. I thought to myself "Here goes nothing!".
I tried to eat some bread and drank a cup of hot milo. It was very hard to eat so early in the morning. Could only manage to eat half the bread. Its hard to eat that early in the morning.
Reached the stadium around 5:25am or so. My friend and me just walked around and to get a feel of the whole run vibe. There were so many people!!!! We went to the first warmup and soon after that, those running for the 21km was being called to that start line. By this time, I was feeling pretty nervous and alot of pent up energy. There was another session of warmup and soon the call for the 10km runners came and we went to queue at the starting line.
I was worried about carrying my big ass Samsung Note right? But I actually saw some people carrying their note around. How to run ah with such a big phone inside your pocket?
I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not run all the way if that is what you are thinking. I ran non stop for the first 5km then slowing down to brisk walking. Where there are hills, I walked. My ankles were hurting really badly by the time I reached 7km (half walked and half jogged). But I told myself not to give up. I can slowly walk to the finishing point. I have to. This is what I had promised myself.
All the water stations were great. But I was a bit peeved. There were so many empty cups lying on the floor. Such inconsiderate runners. There were black plastic bin liners placed, why cant you all just try to aim?
I think I over use my ankles back on the Friday night run and plus I have always run using the treadmill and not really outside. Against all odds, I did it! I ran across the finishing line with a huge smile on my face and with people all around me congratulating me, all unknown faces.
I think I came far from being unable to run 5 mins straight to completing the 10km run. It was such a great experience! I will do it again. My next goal is to be able to run all 10km without stopping.
I salute those who ran the 21km. You guys were great! Such inspirations to me.
When I got home, I can still barely eat. I took a shower and got ready to watch movies in bed, then the rain came along with thunder and lightning. (Everone's predictions were damn wrong, there were no rain at all that morning) I practically slept the whole afternoon.I think part of the reason was that I only slept for about 2 hours the night before and partly coz I was so knackered.
Bi woke me up at around 4 plus nearly 5pm when he left for basketball. Ohhhhh......... I was so hungry!
I got served my daily supplements in bed at night. I take grape seed, glucosamine, fish oil and multi vitamins every night before bed.
Grape seed, I just started taking recently. The pharmacy recommended grape seed coz it is 50 percent more potent than vitamin C. Grape seeds are said to contain compounds procyanidolic oligomers, PCO for short. PCOs are much greater antioxidants than Vitamin C and E. I read from a website somewhere that its used for a wide range of health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer and not forgetting bacterial infections. The ones that I bought are from Vita health. Quite cheap.
Glucosamine for my joints. Together with the shark cartilage supplements, I find that this really helped my knee joint problems. It no longer hurts as bad as before.Mine are from Blackmores.
Multi vitamins, all the daiily intakes that are important are all in these little pills. Mine are from Solary.
Lastly fish oils, these are more for general well being and since we bought so much back from Sydney from our last trip, better to take it everyday so as not to put until expiry. Sayang eh if expired liaw.
The day after the run! I look a bit sun kissed eh, better than sun burnt I guess. I used the sunblock from Sunplay with spf 160. Its very nice and its not oily at all. My ankles are abit swollen after the run and currently stairs are my mortal enemies!
