Ever since the I started planning for the wedding, I wanted to have a personalized wedding invitation card instead of using those that are being supplied by hotel. Those are so plain and so ordinary!!!!!! I din manage to take those that are being offered by the Orchid Garden Hotel (OGH) but even Bi also agreed that it looked kinda plain.
But I also do not want to let the cards supplied by the hotel goes to waste. So my friend from Miri told me that the Hotel will actually compensate me for a certain amount and if the cost of printing the cards exceed that amount, then I will have to fork out the differences. Fair enough. So I approached the person in charge from OGH, Azmin. Azmin confirmed with me that OGH are willing to compensate BND 0.55 per card and that the number of cards they will provide is only up to 80% of the number of invited guests.
With the financial side taken care of, I started lookin for a designer that will truly understand what I wanted and bring what I had visualize to reality. I was quite lucky to have found a very good designer, Yvonne Hong. She came highly recommended from my wedding planner Grace. All I had to do was tell her my concept and left everything to her. I have not met her in person as I simply do not have the time.
I told her that my wedding theme is the Disney Animation 'Up' from 2009. And thus the first version!
| First Version |
It was supposed to be a cut out and this house and balloons is the symbols of 'Up'. But then a few people had advised me that to have a cut out, it would be extremely expensive. In addition, don't you think that the card looks more like an invitation to a house warming party rather than a wedding invitation card? So there goes the 1st version.
After asking for a few friends comments, I came up with the idea of using the cartoonized (not sure if this is the right word but this is all that I can think of) version of Bi and me! And I dun really like the colour green and I feel that some balloons were too light coloured. So I told her to use red and purple as the balloons colours and to make the clouds more fluffy! (Think cotton candy)
So after e-mailing her some pictures of Bi and me to her, together with all the other feedback, this is the second version!

I love the balloons!!!!!! When Bi saw this card, the first thing he said to me is why are his eyes so small! Hahaha, now you know how vain he is. And I don't think it looked anything like us! But we are on the right track, this is what I wanted!
Have you ever seen me wearing long skirts or even dress? No right? So I asked Yvonne to change my wedding gown to a short skirt one (I was planning to wear a short wedding gown when I take my pre wedding photo anyway) and I emailed her my favourite pair of heels (my signature heels)
I was wearing the heels at that time and I took it off and whatapps her a pic immediately! And oh, of course to make Bi's eyes bigger and make me look more like my current weight! Yvonne laughed and told me she never had the request to make the bride looks bigger, the request was always to make them look slimmer! Hahaha! But I wanted it to look more like me and another comment is that I never wear my hair up (unless its during sports)
So with all the comments and feedback, here is the third version!

Ahhhhh!!!!! See the heels???? I love the heels!!!!! The few friends that I showed it to, commented that those heels and short skirt is so me! Just one more thing to change, I had changed my hair to a lighter colour and so that needs to be changed as well and the colour of the wordings is not so eye catching as well.
Do you also noticed the red thread that ties our hand together. This signify that we are meant to be. To read more on the significance of red thread, you can read it here.

And so that was the process of the invitation card! Anyone who is interested in engaging Yvonne can contact me. She is very patient with me with all the endless changes and request.
This process is only about the front cover as I dun want to go into length for the wordings. Just to show the back of the card. FYI, I wanted the wedding invitation card to be front and back and not those open card type of cards.

A very simple but cute wedding invitation card! A very big thank you to Yvonne once again!
As for printing of the cards, a good friend of mine recommended the printing company from Miri. His price quoted was the lowest of all the others that I had inquired. His services were quick and his responses were very fast too. All in all I had a good experience. The quality of the card were good too and his advice was taken very much into consideration. His experience in the type of cards, the thickness of the card as well as the glossy or matt part (which was all alien to me!!!!)

I had received good comments in regards to my wedding invitation card and I feel happy that I had put such care and thoughts into the one thing that many others tend to neglect.
I will be very happy to hear about other people's experience with their own wedding invites!

Comments
Can I also have Yvonne's contacts?
Thanks
